Sunny Days class

I started a new Intermediate Quilting class at Scrapbooks yesterday, 5 are in the class but one is gone this week, one will be next week so we just wing it and get them all thru! Here is Vicki with her finished block of half squares. A new technique for them all.Here is Ruth, she took my last class and is just doing so well!
Carol did a great job, even with cutting her finger...ouch. I didn't get a photo of Marti with her blocks so we'll catch her next week. They have a bunch of these blocks to get done this week and next week we tackle quarter squares. It's a 3 week series so hopefully by the 3rd week we'll be putting borders on them all!

Sneak Peek at The Sew and Go for Tuesday!

Here's your sneak peek at the Sew and Go project for Tuesday...these cute bags! It's a neat size for your hair stuff when you travel, or maybe all my thread when I go to camp, or my little travel iron would fit in here, or all my electronic cords and charger gadgets you take when you travel or....... so many things, it's a great size for lots of stuff. So that's what we are making on Tuesday at Sew and Go at Scrapbooks...don't tell Barb I showed a picture!!!! :-) We made bunches of kits today and already everyone is asking what time do I have to come to get a batik one, well we made 3 different batik sets this time and last week we had a dozen people at the door waiting when we opened the store at 10....soooooooo come early! We really don't start class until 11:00 but it's quite the social event for everyone to get there early and visit and shop and then by 11 they are ready to roll! Barb and I picked out fabric for our samples for the Sew and Go Again for May 25th, the night time class, really cute ! Then we picked out fabric for our sample for the 1st April Sew and Go....... so many ideas floating around and wait until you see what we are doing over the summer, an entire set of........... well you'll just have to see, the ideas are just bouncing around between us so we do get ourselves into trouble!

Mystery Quilt Class at Scrapbooks Etc.

Barb and I taught the first Mystery Quilt class at Scrapbooks Etc. last week. And what is a mystery quilt you ask? Well the students all were given a list of what fabrics to buy, they could choose anything they liked, the value ( light and dark) is what matters. So we were there to help them make their choice and guide them, then they had to go home and cut it out. They were all organized with a project bag, and baggies with labels of what to cut and bring to the first class. They still had no idea what the quilt would look like.

So the fun began, everyone sewed for 2 days in class and had a great time, lots of drinks, snacks were provided. We had a break for lunch and ordered out something different each day, stopped at 3:00 for a wonderful dessert. And by the end of the 2nd day they all had one block complete and the parts of this block and the surrounding areas all built and ready to put together. Here is Tash with hers. It just sparkles.

So our first Mystery quilt Class was a huge success. I'm so glad these 5 gals wanted to jump in and join us as it was a great way to build a quilt! Here is mine, showing you the alternate area that creates another star with the sashing.
And this was Barb's. It was fun when it was finally time to build one block after all the parts were built to "unveil" the finished quilts.
Barb has her border on hers, mine will be on this week! It really made a beautiful quilt. And of course there is another Mystery quilt on the schedule for next quarter. It's just as pretty as this one, of course the blocks are different but I can't wait to get mine started! I think these gals were all so thrilled with theirs and what was included in the cost....lunches, snacks, drinks, all their fabrics with the project bag plus they each went home with a wonderful raffle gift ( one even gets their quilt quilted!) that they'll be back for the next one!

Channel 3

Well whew I lived thru the morning of taping the television spot for Scrapooks! After a few days of trying to talk Marti and Julie out of wanting me to do the television spot I gave up and thought ok, I can do it! So life has been so nuts I havn't had time to worry about it and all the sudden it was today! Here is a shot of Julie ( Scrapbooks marvelous manager) and Marti ( Scrapbooks fantastic owner) at Channel 3's television studio in Phx. We loaded all this stuff up to make up a display and away we went....It was really neat to go back and see the inner workings of the television studio. Here is Marti getting wired. I had a microphone clipped to me and the battery pack stuffed in the back of my pants! It was a room and there were 3 sets all in one area so the cameras just swing around from one corner to the next. One hand held camera and the rest are moving around on their own so they must be manned in the control room.

And....we did it, whew I'd much rather teach a class of 50 than do that but yea, we did it! The only mess up was the anchor getting our names messed up, so she looked at me and I'm Marti Schuld! She told us after we should have corrected her........like we were going to do that! So I don't know if I want to watch it as I havn't a clue what I even said, but it's taped to go on Channel 3 Tuesday March 8 at 10:00....Your Life A to Z .

Grandboy Fun!

We got to have our 3 oldest grandsons over on sunday for the day. We decided to go to McDonald's for lunch and so they had fun there and got to eat and play. Then we went to the park...They had such fun out, it was a beautiful day out so there was lots of swinging,
Giggling and having loads of fun.
We took balls along so the boys enjoyed them and look how Aiden had to go do what Papa was doing! It was great to have time to play when we got home, everyone wanted showers and baths and we had dinner and then they helped me make those pillsbury cinnamon rolls in the can for dessert...2 cans of them. So when they came out of the oven, they devoured all but 3 of them, what fun! So 3 happy little guys went on home once Mommy and Daddy got back from their trip, it's amazing every week how they grow and change!

Zoo Day

Well I had a fun morning thursday at the zoo. I got to accompany Aiden's 1st grade class. I met them there ( didn't have to ride the bus, Ya!) inside the school entrance. Aiden and I and Ryan got to hang out together. They had several pages of things to look for, habitats to notice, things to see like longest tail, sleeping, eating, and on and on. We had a great time! We splurged and went in to see the stingrays. If you've never felt a stingray it's quite the experience. They are soft and very slick. You put your hands down in water and they skim past, sometimes the zoom by real fast.
And then of course your shirt just happens to get wet!
Here is Aiden ( that front tooth is still hanging on!) they all wore their classroom shirts that say Drucks dynamite kids, which is his fantastic teacher.
It was great to get to go since Amy had to teach and I was free for the morning. What a beautiful day out to enjoy spring, the sunshine, green trees, blue sky and these 2 little boys.

Sew and Go in March

We had a great day on tuesday and Scrapbooks. 45 came to Sew and Go ! And 45 smiling faces left with their cute baskets! What a fun day! Here is Grace with hers, she's from Canada so we'll miss her while she is gone but will look forward to her coming back in the fall!Look how cute they came out, wonder what everyone did with theirs when they went home, I heard lots of ideas floating around and out of the 64 kits we made there were only 3 left.
So here are alot of classroom shots so maybe you can find yourself!
What a fun place and what alot of happy chatter when you stop and listen! Sometimes it gets kind of quiet when everyone is focused! We had several new faces and several new sewers so it was lots of fun.
And of course as they leave we hear........what are we making next time??????? So we'll see you all on March 15th! And of course tonight is our first" Sew and Go Again" ( the much requested night time version) so if you want to come and make a cute little bag, join us at 6:00 on Thursday night! I'll be sure and take pictures!

Happy Birthday Amy!

Today is Amy's birthday, my middle child and sweet daughter! Here she is with her 3 boys. They were all helping her open her present! We had a great day on saturday celebrating her! She's getting to escape the night of her birthday to join Chris in CA on a business trip so I'm glad we snagged the weekend before to have a family get together.We started Saturday morning out with a hike out at Usery Mountain Park. It was beautiful out.
We chose the little mile loop but then decided to go to the top of the mountain too, and little Ethan went the whole way up on his own power. I think that mountain was pretty big when you are 2!
MB wore Bode the whole way so she had a good workout!

Here is Aiden, he found a hiking stick, but we got it back to it's owners in the parking lot.
It was so nice out, I'm ready to go back again and spend some more time out in the dessert while it's so pretty out.

We came back to our house after the hike and had lunch, 2 kinds of chili. My folks joined us and we all enjoyed seeing the boys play, Bode and his cousins were so cute together.
So Happy Birthday to you Amy, I hope you have a marvelous getaway ! I'm so glad we got to celebrate you and I'm so proud you are my daughter!

Birthday Picnic

I played hookie for a few hours today at the park. Went in to work for a couple hours and then zoomed to the park for a relaxing few hours to celebrate my friend Judy's birthday with some of the very dearest people I know! It had gotten quite chilly over the weekend but we'd saved this day for weeks on the calendar for Judy's wish for her birthday.....a picnic! So here is our fun little table, it was out in the sunshine and not cold at all, we had hot chocolate while we sat in our lawn chairs each with our hands busily doing something.....a bit of applique from Denise......Judy was knitting, and Linda and I both were stitching bindings down. For lunch Denise made this wonderful tomato soup she brought in a thermos, we had sandwiches and gingerbread for dessert. That's a fun snap pea salad that Denise brought in the jars. Linda had the cute little daisy baskets all ready for us to each put our part of the lunch in. Fun little dish towels were the napkins with the silverware tucked inside. Martha Stewart would have been so impressed!So here are these crazy friends of mine who sat in the park like little old ladies with me, enjoying the sunshine and laughter of old friends! Denise, Linda and Judy. Thanks for the fun relaxing few hours ladies, I loved it all!

Sunny Days

Just finished my sample for next months intermediate quilting class at Scrapbooks. It's called Sunny Days and we'll be learning 1/2 square triangles, quarter squares and then a pieced border too. I added a little flange to the outside of mine between the binding and quilt so we'll even talk about adding that little design feature! Classes start in March on thursdays, and the quilt's hanging now at Scrapbooks just in time for us to think SPRING!

It's Raining Dogs and Cats!

Barb and I finished up with the last class of It's Raining Dogs and Cats at Scrapbooks Etc. Everyone started their quilts last friday with the shopping day learning how to stack a buggy barn style quilt, how colors and values all work, they were all so anxious to start the stack and slash and shuffle method that is so fun. Everyone got one of their dog or cat blocks done and then moved on to learn the flower also, a few got a few more parts all ready to go also. So we have this charming pink white and black cat by Ce!
And Tash is making hers for a friend and she wanted all neutrals, it's going to be the most elegant set of cats!
Here is Nancy with hers, this first one she said is "ghost" one of the cats she's had in her life!
Natalie was doing all brights, it's going to be a fun quilt!

And here is a yellow one. Everyone had a great time and really had fun looking at each others as they'd finish. Barb and I will do 2 more next quarter, so we are leaning towards "witches" for halloween quilts and maybe the sailboat one! So we'll see!
And out of the class of 9 taking the class we only had 2 dogs.....I was so surprised, I figured the dog one would be the one we'd have more doing. Here is Marti with hers, it's for her Grandson.
And Susan with hers, that background on this one is coffee beans, her 2 pups have coffee names so she used a fun selection of fabrics with coffee on them! So Buggy barn for this quarter is over, we'll be looking forward to the next one for summer time!
