Riparian Preserve

This is my favorite place to go for a walk. It's about a mile from our house. I love coming here, you get back into it and almost forget you are in the middle of the city. There are acres and acres of recharge ponds that take the treated sewage water and let it soak back into the aquafer under ground.

They've created the ponds with trails and streams between them all and the trees and natural vegetation grows and it's a perfect place then for a birding habitat. Spring is the best time as lots of things are blooming and around every bend is another family of baby ducks.

Along the back are some houses with acreage that have animals. We've talked to the lady that owns one and she doesn't mind if you stop and feed her little farm animals. So we always take a bag of "treats" (something old in the pantry) for the little goat, the chickens and the funny goose with wings and the little miniature horse.

They see you and come running. We've watched these little babies turn into chickens.

The goat makes sure he gets his share !

We try and go very early every saturday and sunday morning. Ken used to groan about my insistant desire for walks but I think now he kind of likes them too ! But now it's to hot for walks here, we were lucky this year and got thru most of June without the heat, so for 3 months we'll be walking laps at the mall, how boring is that ! But in the fall it'll be nice to see what is new and enjoy the rest of the year outside.
