Flower Power Class #2

Sorry the photos are pretty much fast snap shots but it's fun to show you how great my students did this week in getting their quilts ready for today/tonight's class. Sorry for the blur and bad angles but they all did great. A few aren't on here....but isn't it fun to see the varietyand imagination on the fabric choices.
Susan is doing a halloween one and she was putting witch hats instead of the flowers.
I didn't get a picture of Theresa's either, she is doing Christmas with a big tall and skinny christmas tree instead of the flowers.
So we learned how to do blanket stitching tonight either by hand or machine.
They've all got lots to do this next week to be ready for class next week. We are going to lay them all out in prep for quilting.
A few of them aren't on here but everyone seemed real pleased with what they had been able to do !

so what a great start all these quilters have taken, they've all just jumped right in !

Have fun everyone getting your flowers all stitched on ! Hopefully next week we'll have completed tops !
I still can't get over what a wonderful classroom it is to work in, we have so much room and the lighting is wonderful ! yea for Scrapbooks Etc. for providing that for us !

Yard trimming

Well this was the best part of the morning today.....a walk and meeting Mr. Bode for a bagel ! But.....This is what really got accomplished ! The yard people finally trimmed those bushes ! See how ratty....
Now they look like this ! Yea ! Yard crew T&K finally got it together and got all 16 bushes trimmed up, kinda been putting it off cuz of the heat but it's been so nice now in the mornings and evenings, I think our heat has ended ! Those 105 degree days aren't as tough to handle when you have beautiful mornings and evenings, I think we have another 8 months of wonderful weather ahead and whew, one more big job done !

Bode Time tonight !

I got home late afternoon from teaching today ( we taught all day... the rest of the free make and take at Scrapbooks and had a whoppin turnout ! out of the 160 kits we only have 27 left, wow was that alot of little coin pouches that people made...I'll be giving those instructions in my sleep ) And Bode and Chris and MB were here. Bode was staying with us while they went out to dinner. So we had a marvelous time ! He's discovered his fist and his tongue ! He was a happy little guy !
When they got back from dinner we gave him a little bath in the kitchen sink, he was so relaxed and loved it ! What a cutie at 2 1/2 months !

A bagel kind of Morning

What a great way to start a day.....Ken and I met Amy and crew for a bagel his morning and then we went geo-caching. Here is Ethan with his cute little cream cheese mustache...It was a lovely morning out. We went over to the Riparian preserve then to do some Geo Caching. No luck on the 2 I was there for, everything was to overgrown from the summer to get to far in to find the caches. I had to leave to head to work but they hunted a bit more without any luck. Nice morning together !

Free Make and Take

Our Free Make and Take was a HUGE success today at Scrapbook Etc. Here are a few of the kits all ready for the picking, along with the great pattern that Barb wrote up ! We had to refill the table several times !These 2 ladies were the first students we had and like everyone else they were happy as can be with their free little coin purse ! 58 people later and .....
here were our last 2 and of course Barb being her goofey self ! We had 6 machines at the ready, only twice did we have no one sewing for 5 minutes, the rest of the time they were filled and a couple times people were waiting their turn. So we walked alot of people thru making this cute little bag ! I loved the young gals that had never sat in front of a sewing machine and had success with putting the zipper in, they said I can't wait to show my Mom what I made ! YES ! That is what it's all about ! So if you missed it today we will be there from 10-4 again tomorrow so come make your free little bag and enjoy being welcomed to Scrapbook Etc. !!!! On another note several of my students have stopped in over the last few days and are doing great with their quilt and getting their homework all done, Monday's class will be fun as we are on to another whole process of it !

Our First Sew and Go Class

So here we are at our first "Sew and Go" class at Scrapbooks Etc. What a fun day ! Barb and I had 45 students take the class. It was fun and crazy and I think everyone had a great time and alot finished their table runner. Here is the stack of kits, batting and name tags. We made 54 kits last week. At the end of the day there were only 6 kits left as some bought extras, so now those will be sold in the store. All the parts were included plus a spool of thread.
There is Linda and Joann having fun !
Hey there is Vicki ! What a great classroom that can hold that many people, we had irons and cuttting mats all around the perimeter.
Here is Marti, owner of Scrapbooks with her finished table runner ! Hmmmmm what is the next project for Sew and Go????? They are the first and 3rd Tuesdays each month. I suppose I might end up dropping some hints one of these days ! What a fun time for $18 and to think the entire kit is cut out and includes the back and batting and binding ! We had a few unable to make it and just came to pick up a kit, so what a great project even to do at home. yippeee I think we had 45 happy students !

Flower Power Class

Today was part one of the 4 part series of our beginning quilt class at Scrapbooks Etc. that I'm teaching. I had 10 in the daytime class and 11 in the evening class. Everyone did absolutely great ! We had all levels of sewing expertise and even those that didn't know their machine or a rotary cutter did great. I didn't take as great a pictures as I should of, here they are all busy working hard. I sent them on their way with knowing how to cut and piece their blocks, square them up, and sew the rows together. I can't wait until next monday to see how they all look, I'll try and take better pictures ! They've got alot of homework to do as next class we jump into the appliqué section and learn hand and machine blanket stitching.
Here are a few in the morning hard at work cutting.
The classroom is wonderfully HUGE ! I love it ! It actually will seat around 30 people so we had plenty of room to spread out ! So many different fabrics were chosen, it's going to be so much fun next class to see how they all turned out !

The snowmen really have personality !
This is the quilt that I showed you the row of houses we did that mine looked like Mr. Rogers neighborhood ! It's going to be alot of fun to see everyone's version of this !

Our Staycation

We had a fun overnight on a "staycation" with our kids that live here. Amy and Chris and Chris and MB had given Ken this weekend getaway as a gift for Fathers day. Well it finally arrived and we all met over at the Hilton Squaw Peak resort in Phoenix. What a fun filled 24 hours ! We all got there by lunch on Saturday and settled into the 3 rooms, Chris brought Sandwiches back from a local grocery store. The boys had a picnic as we all ate and chatted about the fun to be had ! I laughed by evening we all kept gathering in Ken and my room and Aiden told me gosh our room was really trashed as he went back to his room and saw how nice and neat it all was....10 people, food everywhere, drinks, snacks, toys, margaritas, chips, boys jumping on beds, wine, pizza for dinner, pillows flying thru the air..... Grammy didn't really care, it was all fun ! Here we go ready to check out all the water adventures this resort had...Bode got to come to the pool for just a short bit, when you are 2 months old it was to hot and sunny for him so he was just happy to stay in the room.
Everyone enjoyed the lazy river...
Garrett and Amy...
Here are Ken and I...
Bode fell asleep so he and Mommy went back to the room.
After our pizza dinner we went to enjoy the putt putt golf course.
The boys got the hang of it real well, Aiden always had his score ready for me, Garrett was very intent on getting his ball in no matter how many shots, Ethan just wanted his little plastic ball to go in every hole !
There was a bit of this going on...that is Aiden flying thru the air...
And here is little Ethan wishing he was tall enough to go down the slide too...They had a blast on the slide, even Garrett went down alone, not bad for just turning 4 !
So here is Papa with the Grandboys, we never did get a picture of everyone sitting still and smiling but you know what, those grins are better than that any day !

Continuing our worldly food quest....

Denise and Sarah and I met for dinner tonight after work in what I think is their quest to have me try all kinds of ethnic foods from all over the world. Tonights was a bit closer to home, we choose Native American. So we went to the Fry Bread House and had Indian Fry bread. It's owned by Navajo people from the Tohono O'Odham tribe and it was wonderful, greasy so a bit goes a long way ! One of those things you might eat once a year ! We all ordered the fry bread with just beans and cheese. Then we had a dessert one, should have taken a picture of it, it layed flat on the plate and was drizzled with butter and melted chocolate. Oh my gosh. One little slice was plenty of that too ! But it was fun to try ! I'm hearing middle eastern is next on the list.
Lucky me found a jar of Sarah's own salsa waiting for me on the table ! Look at that cute label. Thankyou Sarah for sharing it, now I'll have to be very choosy who I share it with too ! It looks wonderful.
