MIM

Ken and I enjoyed a trip to the Mim ( my choice of something fun to do for Mothers Day!) It's the Music Instrument Museum up in north Scottsdale and if you havn't gone to see it, I highly recommend it. We were there about 3 hours and only saw about 1/2 of it. In fact we only saw about 1/4 of Africa! You wear headsets that are activated when you get in front of each section, you can watch the video of the actual instruments being played, sometimes it's of the native people building them, some of the videos have people in their native dress, or dancing with the music. Note what resembles our "guitars" but they've used what they had and built them out of tin gas type cans.
We noted the Brazil section for Stephanie ( Jamie's sister) who lives there. We noticed no matter what part of the world you were in, there was always some form of a drum. I loved the Latin America section and all of Oceana, we never even got into the USA area or Europe and only did a small portion of Africa. Every country in the world is represented and it was so interesting.
There is an area for hands on, also an area of tribute with some famous instruments. Here is John Lenon's piano and video had one of his songs being played all over the world, every few measures it goes to another country with them singing and playing a native instrument, so impressive. I could have listened to the Paul Simon guitar tribute forever.
So if you ever get a chance to go to the MIM, you'll love it. It only cost $15.00, you could easily spend the day if your feet will stand and walk that much. They have a little cafe there where we had a cup of soup and bread, very well done, you'll be impressed!
